Methodology and trust

How Affordit makes decisions

Affordit applies transparent planning rules to the numbers you enter. It estimates the monthly reality, explains what moved the result and suggests one practical action to consider. It does not make decisions for you, change a plan automatically or provide financial advice.

What you provide

You choose a goal and enter estimates such as target cost, savings, monthly contribution, income, regular costs and timeline. Some goal types ask for relevant assumptions, such as repayments, running costs or an emergency buffer.

Affordit knows only what you enter and what is saved to your account. It does not connect to your bank, inspect your credit file, verify income, check eligibility or see provider accounts.

What Affordit calculates

  • How much of the goal is already covered by available savings after any protected buffer.
  • The monthly contribution required by the selected target and timeline.
  • How that contribution compares with the income and regular costs entered.
  • Goal-specific reality checks, such as car running costs, moving costs or recurring repayments.

Step 5

You decide whether to apply it

High confidence

The relevant inputs are present and the rule points clearly to the same main constraint or opportunity.

Medium confidence

The available inputs support a useful direction, but one or more assumptions could materially change it.

Low confidence

Important information is missing or uncertain. Affordit should explain the gap rather than present the suggestion as certain.

Assumptions and limitations

Results depend on the completeness and accuracy of the figures entered. Costs, income, rates, tax rules and personal circumstances can change. Affordit cannot predict provider approval, market prices, emergencies or future legal changes.

Suggestions are deterministic and explainable: the same inputs and rules produce the same guidance. Commercial relationships do not alter the score, confidence or ranking of guidance. Any future partner layer must remain optional and separate from the decision logic.

Affordit is general educational guidance, not regulated financial, pension, tax, mortgage, debt or investment advice.

Question a result

Check the inputs and assumptions shown with your result first. If an explanation appears wrong, unclear or outdated, report it to the Affordit team. Material methodology changes are documented and published dates are updated only after a substantive review.

Test the explanation with your own numbers

Choose a goal, add your estimates and review the score, monthly pressure and reasons before deciding what to do next.
